I love to decorate my mantle for the holidays and seasons. After taking down my festive Christmas decorations, my house looked (for lack of a better word)... bland! I knew I wanted to do a wintery theme but I was not sure how I would pull it off.
I began by scrounging around the house. Those of you who know me, I am a bargain shopper, and your own home is the best place to start. My china cabinet has several clear vases and milk glass (all garage sale finds). I began pulling these items out because they reminded me of snow and ice.
After that, I went to my local hardware store and picked up a can of satin white spray paint. My front yard has holly bushes, so I cut several branches. I also went back into the field behind our house and cut a handful of dried weeds. I lightly sprayed the foliage and... voila!!!
Now, all this needed was a few finishing touches. I found the snowflakes for a very reasonable price at a local craft store... they added sparkly elegance.
In the floral section of the craft store I found the white beaded strands I put around the mirror.
The finished product... May be one of my favorite decorations yet!! I like to think it is simple elegance.
