"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."
John 15:7
A sweet friend of mine has been praying diligently for her grandpa. In October, he was diagnosed with cancer and began to undergo treatment. He had over 50 cancerous places in his body. Being faced with the possibility of death, his family (including brothers and sisters in Christ) began praying faithfully. Yesterday he had a PET scan to check the cancerous areas. Today, the test results came in and there was "no evidence of active disease." The Lord completely healed him! Isn't it wonderful to know the Lord is still in the miracle business?
Unfortunately, sometimes it is easy to treat God like a genie. I know from personal experience that it is easy to get in the mindset of "If I ask for something, He will give it to me." Like a spoiled child, we pound our fists into the ground and flail our arms when we do not get what we want. I have to remind myself that sometimes His answer is "no."
Looking back on my selfish requests, I realize I would not have asked for those things if I had been abiding in Christ and allowing His word to abide in me. Abiding in Christ also gives you the understanding that His ways are not our ways, so when the answer is "no," we will know that God has a better plan than our own.
I am thankful the Lord is in control and not me!!!
